ROYAL BRITISH LEGION POPPY APPEAL 2007
I am pleased to announce that the amount raised in the Litcham & District Poppy Appeal was £1,506.04. The area comprises Beeston with Bittering, the Lexham, Mileham, Stanfield and Litcham. A total of £1,081.24 was raised by house to house and static collections, £287.30 by church collections and the balance through purchase of wreaths and donations.
The legion is most grateful to the many people who have freely contributed their time and money to raising this record amount, with special thanks to the house to house collectors. Since this is my last year as poppy organiser I would personally like to express my gratitude to those concerned who over the years have made my task so much easier.
Thank you all.
Arthur Clarke, Honorary Area Poppy Organiser.

LITCHAM PARISH COUNCIL
At the June meeting, attended by 6 Councillors and District Councillor Kiddle Morris, the following was considered: Highways/Traffic Matters.  The repairs to the pothole at Lexham Road does not appear to have lasted and this plus two others on Druids Lane are to be reported and it is hoped that improvements can be made to Dereham Road on the entrance to the village. Only one volunteer had come forward for the speed watch and as three are needed to be operate the system this is to be held in abeyance. Norfolk County Council had replied to the Parish Council regarding the parking outside the post office and stated they would not be in favour of bollards as this would create an additional hazard as the vehicles would overhang the highway. Norfolk County Council are checking their records regarding the ditch on Dereham Road as the Parish Council is concerned that there is inadequate protection of the ditch from the pavement.
Planning. Applications: The members raised no objection to the application for the alterations to the shop front at 12 Church Street. Decisions. The members noted that permission had been granted for the satellite dish at Corner Stores Mileham Road and the detached dwelling on land adjacent to 19 Wellingham Road. A meeting is to be held in Litcham with other parishes and Breckland Council to discuss the next phase of the Local Development framework specifically the village guidelines. The members noted that no further action is to be taken by Breckland Council over the selling of car boot items at 7 Lexham Road. Finance.  Payments for the Clerk’s salary, emergency call out for the street lighting and the renewal of the web site were all approved. Other Matters. As no comments had been received regarding the proposed removal of the payphone from Weasenham Road it was agreed to raise no objection provided the area is restored correctly. Mr V Piffero was appointed as a Parish Council trustee to the Litcham Relief in Need Charity. It was agreed to defer the refurbishment of the Heritage Map until after the Local Development Framework is published as there could be alterations to the conservation area and other matters that are shown on the map. The Safer Neighbourhood Team had visited Litcham and had noted that there was no street lighting in Manor Drive. A reply has been sent stating that there are two street lights in Manor Drive and requesting clarification as to whether more have been asked for.

Ponies on Litcham Common
Luckyboy_George2.jpg
Three Dartmoor ponies arrived on Litcham Common on 17th June. They are there to graze the common in order to help maintain the open heathland areas and prevent them becoming overgrown with scrub and rank vegetation. The aim is to retain a diversity of plants and wildlife habitats. The animals are two year old geldings with a placid temperament, supplied by the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust.
We hope that the ponies will be an added attraction for visitors to the common and that people will take pleasure from seeing them there. However, please note that they are not tame animals or pets, and the following simple but important rules should be followed:

•    Do not attempt to touch or feed the animals

•    Keep dogs under close control at all times

In particular, these are hardy animals used to eating low nutrient grasses and other vegetation, so giving them different food could be detrimental to their health. It could also encourage them to be over-friendly and follow people around, thereby causing a nuisance.
More information about the ponies, including photos, can be found on this website under the Common tab.
The animals will be inspected daily by volunteers, but if anyone has any concerns about their welfare please get in touch with either Tim Angell on 01328 700045 or Sarah Cureton on 01553 669242.

Anti-Social Behavior and Homewatch
At a recent meeting attended by the local Police Community Support Officer, Litcham Homewatch discussed the increasing incidents of anti-social behaviour in Litcham. It was concluded that many incidents were going unreported and if the Police were to act on the matter, as they did last year in Dunham, this had to improve. In the past the Police have appeared indifferent to reports of minor incident but this had changed and both the Police and
Breckland District Council are keen to stamp out anti-social behaviour
Everyone agreed that Homewatch had a major part to play in this. Can I therefore encourage all residents to;

REPORT ALL INCIDENTS OF ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

or indeed any other suspicious or criminal behaviour to:
Or your local Homewatch Co-ordinator click for details...

New Footway for Primary School - delay in starting. In response to a direct request from the Primary School and as a result of continued updateing of it's Travel Plan, a need for a short length of footway outside the school has been identified. This will improve pedestrian safety and help improve parent confidence in letting their children walk to and from school. There is already as footway from the village to the school, but this stops at the schools vehicular entrance rather than carrying on past the bus stop. The footway had originally been programmed to be constructed by NCC Highway Dept. from 4th August, this has now been changed and works will now commence
on the 18 August 2008 for two weeks, this is to allow us to work during the week commencing 25-08-2008 when the Childrens Centre is closed.for a two week period. Click here to see plan of proposed scheme....
