ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR and HOMEWATCH
Many incidents of Anti-social behaviour go unreported, if we want the the Police were to act on incidents of anti-social behaviour, as they did in Dunham recently, they need reports of as many incidents as possible in order pinpoint the culprits . Many people feel that in the past the Police have appeared indifferent to reports of minor incidents but I am assured that this has changed and both the Police and Breckland District Council are keen to stamp out anti-social behaviour.
You should REPORT ALL INCIDENTS OF ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR or indeed any other suspicious or criminal behaviour to:
Your your local Homewatch Co-ordinator click for details...
or The Police on their non-emergency number 101
or The Breckland Anti-social Behaviour Officer on 01362-656 367 or e-mail tracey.baxter@breckland.gov.uk.
BOGUS CALLERS
If a caller comes to your door, before answering it, ensure that any other external doors are locked. Use a spy hole or window to see who is calling before answering the door. If you do not recognise the caller, keep the door locked and speak through the closed door. If you do not feel comfortable with the caller ask them to call back later when you can have a friend or relative with you.
Consumers are advised to call 0800 145145 to check the identity of a 'water company' doorstep caller.

Free Identity Check Helpline for Water Company Callers
Norfolk Constabulary and Anglian Water are working together to crackdown on bogus water officials. As part of a national initiative concerned residents can now verify the identity of a 'water company' doorstep caller by calling the FREE helpline on 0800 145145 to check their identity.
DS Pete Jessop said; “In the past year there have been 16 incidents in Norfolk involving callers claiming to be from the water board and stating their need to enter the property. The phone number can be used to verify the authenticity of officials and minimise the risk of a crime occurring. If a cold caller visits your home claiming they need to enter the property urgently then be cautious. There are very few circumstances where someone would need to be given access in this manner. Check the identity of the caller and make them wait – if they’re genuine they will not mind.”
Martyn Oakley, Customer Services Director at Anglian Water said: “We, at Anglian Water, take the protection of our customers very seriously. All our staff and contractors carry identification and we have a dedicated phone line for customers to confirm the identity and seek reassurance that any visitor is genuine. If a customer receives an unexpected doorstep visitor we urge them to check their ID and then call the company to make sure they are who they say they are. All of our employees and contractors will be happy to wait while you do this.”
The Operation Radar team and Anglian Water aim to safeguard people in their homes and reduce the risk of distraction burglary offences.
Security Help for those over 60
Breckland Council subscribe to an organisation called Care and Repair Handyperson Service which involves approved workers undertaking simple household tasks for people who have problems doing them themselves, or can't afford it. There is funding for security work for those over 70 or the over 60s on benefits. Others may have to pay a nominal costs.
LOOKING FOR A TRADER YOU CAN TRUST?
Then look no further than the Norfolk Trusted Trader Scheme from Norfolk County Council Trading Standards Service. Where the details of local businesses, are only a click or phone call away.
The scheme is continuing to expand and now covers a wider number of trade areas; it also allows customers to give feedback on the service they have received from the Trusted Trader member. This feedback is published on the website to help consumers make their choice on which trader to use.
Traders apply to join the scheme, and Trading Standards then assess whether they are suitable for membership. As part of the assessment, Trading Standards may check records of complaints and trading history in relation to the applicant. If the assessment is satisfactory, the trader is accepted as a member of the scheme.
The scheme also supports and promotes good local businesses. The feedback forms endorse and recommend their service.
