We started the New School year with 111 students joining us in year 7 and over-subscribed in all years except year 9.  Several new teachers and support staff joined us in September:  Miss Green – English; Mr Horsley – science; Mrs Taylor –  special educational needs and disabilities coordinator; Mrs Berry – reception; Mrs Betts – administration; Mr Hamshaw – data, examinations and cover manager. Mrs Taylor is a joint appointment with Litcham Primary School.  We hope they will all enjoy working here and contribute to helping us provide an even better education for our young people.

Over the holiday, a lot of work has taken place on the site. This has involved a partial re-roofing of the original 1920’s building; exterior work to make the buildings better insulated and thus, more energy efficient and the redecoration of several classrooms. Work on improving the kitchen and dining area has been completed, including new chairs and tables, which have significantly increased dining capacity.

The summer’s GCSE and other results were the most interesting and complex for many years. Committed students, of all abilities, who had worked hard, achieved very good results. 25% of all GCSE grades were at A*/A, which is well above the national average. However, the percentages of students gaining five GCSE grades A*-C – with and without English and maths – were lower than expected.  The Department for Education publishes definitive results in November.
