London 1946 and Juliet Ashton, a charismatic London-based author and free spirit who wants to be taken seriously and publishes under the nom-de-plume of Izzy Bickerstaff, receives a letter from a member of a mysterious literary club which was started in Nazi-occupied Guernsey.  Her curiosity piqued, she seizes on this opportunity to go to the island and meet with members of the intriguingly named book club.

Once there she meets the delightfully eccentric members and comes face to face with the author of the letter she received.  Tom Dawsey (Michiel Huisman) a rugged and mysterious farmer.

As the secrets from their wartime past unfold, especially the mystery involving the wartime fate of the book club's founder, Elizabeth McKenna, Juliet's growing attachment to the island, the book club and her affection for Dawsey, deepen changing her life forever.

A stellar cast that includes Tom Courtenay, Penelope Wilton, Jessica Brown Findlay, Katherine Parkinson and Matthew Goode provide great support.
